-Loss, Grief, Love
Thank you for joining me.
Winter was giving way to beautiful spring, the air outside giving off an enchanting fragrance. The calls came in while I was at the library, incessantly. I knew something was up. “You are needed doc, it is urgent”. I ran upstairs to the ward and met a mammoth crowd around her bed. And then the question from the medics: should we continue resuscitation?
These four words announced the cardiac arrest of Kenny, my wife. As I was about to step outside 90 minutes earlier, I had told her, “I am going out briefly, I’ll be back soon. Love you”. She nodded her head and then mouthed, “I love you too”. That was the last words we shared.
Thus I was thrust into sudden widowhood. Where goes all the dreams, all the plans, all the trips, all the love to be shared? That was 7 months ago. I have been through the deepest depth of sorrow and hopelessness. And through the abyss of the soul, there has been a gradual realization to share my life with you.
It was Iyanla Vanzant who said, “when you stand and share your story in an empowering way, your story heals you and your story will heal someone else”. Nabeel Qureshi reminded us, “it doesn’t matter what you have been through; God can and will use it to redeem others – if you let him”. And Corrie ten Boom said: Every experience that God gives us, every person he puts in our lives, it is a perfect preparation for the future only he can see. Every experiences of our lives can redeem others, heal them and give them hope.
Daily I appreciate every moment God gave Kenny and I to be together. In the wake of our life together and her sudden death, I have discovered my life to be message to the world: a message of hope to those in relationship rut because of being taken for granted, those in distress or grieving their loved ones.
The Bible says ‘He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us'(2 Cor 1: 4, NLT). Check out the posts on this site. I hope you find encouragement and truths that speak to whatever challenges you might be facing.
